An analyst studies something in detail and reports what it means. Beyond that the job titles diverge wildly: a financial analyst values companies, a data analyst writes queries, an intelligence analyst reads reports, a systems analyst designs processes.

Analyse is British and Commonwealth; analyze is American. The noun is *analysis* everywhere, and its plural is *analyses*, pronounced with the final syllable as *seez*. The person is always an analyst, never an analyser.
What does an analyst actually do?
Gathers information, checks it, looks for patterns, and turns the result into a recommendation someone can act on. The subject changes; the shape of the work does not.
