Closing is the act of shutting or finishing. It names the last part of a speech, the hour a shop shuts, and in America the moment a house purchase completes.
Closing is the final stage of anything that has a defined end. American property law gives it a very specific meaning: the closing is the meeting at which ownership actually transfers, and until then the sale is not done however many papers have been signed.
